Recreya refurbishes pleated insect screen doors from Horrex, Polyplastic, Unilux, Remis, Dometic, and Seitz, among others, for motorhomes and caravans.

Recreya is the specialist in the repair and refurbishment of pleated screen doors, blackout blinds, and pleated skylight blinds. We work for private owners, camper and caravan companies, and rental companies throughout the Netherlands.

We repair the cause, not just the defect. A broken cord is usually the result of wear on other parts. Therefore, we do not just replace the cord, but inspect and overhaul the complete screen door.

Common causes are:

  • Worn-out conductors

  • Worn or corroded eyelets

  • Broken leveling plates

  • Wear and tear due to old age

  • Overburdening caused by pets or a trash can at the entrance door

  • By repairing the actual cause, the screen door will last considerably longer.

SFC-K™ Kevlar replacement cord

We use exclusively our own SFC-K™ Kevlar-reinforced replacement cord, produced specifically for Recreya.

(0.8 mm) 145 kg Load capacity

(1.0 mm) 160 kg Load capacity

(1.2 mm) 180 kg Load capacity

The cord is extremely wear-resistant and available in various diameters and colors for a wide range of screen door brands.

Custom-designed conductors

We have developed our own guides for many brands and models. These feature V-bearing guidance, allowing the runner to move much more smoothly and significantly reducing the load on the cord. The guides are designed and manufactured entirely in-house.

Repair Process

  1. Disassembly and inspection: The frame of the pleated insect screen door is disassembled, and all components are inspected for wear and corrosion.

  2. Cleaning: The bottom rail and guides, if still suitable for reuse, are thoroughly cleaned in a professional parts-washing tank using a cold degreasing agent.

  3. Eyelet inspection and repair: Worn eyelets can be rotated 90 degrees using specially designed tools to provide a new contact surface. This service is performed free of charge. Corroded eyelets must be replaced; please refer to our price list.

  4. Restoring the pleats: If the folding action of the pleated screen has been affected, the pleats can be restored as much as possible using a special press. This service is also free of charge.

  5. Replacing the cords: The next step is to rethread the pleated screen with new cords.

  6. Cord tensioning: After rethreading, the pleated screen is secured in a specially designed tensioning device. The cords are tensioned synchronously to ensure uniform tension, then joined together and secured using a crimp sleeve.

  7. Reassembly and adjustment: The pleated screen is reinstalled into the base and sliding rail. The frame is then fully reassembled, and the adjustment cords are correctly

  8. tensioned and adjusted.

  9. Dry lubrication: Finally, the guides and both the upper and lower guide rails are treated with a PTFE-based dry

  10. lubricant to ensure smooth operation and reduce friction and wear.

Maintenance Advice for a Longer Service Life

  • Keep the bottom rail clean. The rail is usually located directly next to the entrance mat and can become contaminated by dirty shoes, allowing sand, dirt and water to accumulate in the rail and on the lower guide cord. When opening and closing the pleated insect screen door, the cord carries sand and dirt into the mechanism, causing wear to the components and blockages in the openings through which the cord passes.

  • Never lubricate the guides or rails with oil-based lubricants or liquid products that can attract and retain dirt and sand.

  • Avoid excessive strain on the screen door. Be mindful of pets and make sure the insect screen door is fully open when closing the main entrance door, especially if a proper door retainer is not installed. If necessary, secure the entrance door with a fastening strap.

  • Open and close the screen door slowly and smoothly. Rapid movement of the cords over plastic guide components can generate frictional heat, causing the cords to cut into the plastic parts and resulting in premature wear.

Recommended Lubricants

  1. Tip-it –    PTFE Dry Lubricant

  2. Motip –   PTFE Dry Lubricant

  3. WD-40 – PTFE Dry Lubricant

If your bottom rail is equipped with brushes, we recommend:

This cannot be reinstalled after overhaul; the manufacturer decided that the brushes prevent dirt and sand from getting into the rail.

However, the brushes have the opposite effect; sand and dirt remain on them, but as soon as the bottom guide passes, the dirt falls into the rail, where it is no longer accessible for cleaning.

The result is that, over time, the handler walks through a sandbox.

The photo on the right shows that an average of one cup of sand comes out.
